Have you ever listened to a song and in your head you see a training montage? Some guys just moving as fast as they can beating on hanging chunks of cows or running? There are just some songs that have that feel, and that’s what you get with the new EP The Day After Final from Mind Vortex.
Don’t get me wrong; I love montage scenes. They’re easy to make fun of because they’re usually so ridiculous. The sounds of the keyboard against the repeated echo of the vocalist, the staccato beats, and the slow increase in volume as the overall suspense of the sound builds is perfect for a montage. It doesn’t hurt that the sound is clean and does not try to be anything more than what it is. So many musicians just try to sound like everyone else, and while Mind Vortex does have an older sound it is infused with enough modern techniques to really make me want to take this and go work out with a dance version of Mr. Miagi all day long.
Wax on, wax off.
