Forest Biz Nocturna #2
Continuing to lead by example, boundary-pushing electronic music purveyors Forest Biz Records have rounded up some of their biggest and brightest for Nocturna #2, the second instalment in a series of compilations showcasing the more rugged side to their roster.
Across fourteen tracks, the LP finds label regulars like Nottingham D&B innovators TEK-DIF and stateside dubstep specialist Wolfdog joined by a whole host of new blood including Edinburgh talent Aurita and Philly native Joro Dudovski. Redefining the parameters of the hardcore continuum, be it 140, halftime drum and bass or ambient experimentations, this cohort of rising producers are at the helm of the latest innovations in electronic music.
Highlights across the LP include the PHYDRA and Subduktion tag-team “Obsidian”, a blistering journey through staggered, virtually dismantled breaks, and French duo Jardin des Délices’ “GRAVITY”, a haunting, broken-up journey through trip-hop vocals, air raid sirens and distorted crackles. Meanwhile, fast-rising New Zealand producer Paige Julia opts for a serene slice of melodic dubstep in the form of the arpeggiated delight “Blessing”, SystemOne deploys gravelly basslines and bumpy rhythms on the winding halftime number “Midnight Vibes”, and Mancunian mastermind Test Bench serves up the stuttering, genre-bending techno roller “Rubber Banding”.
Nocturna #2 lands on 29 January. With Forest Biz and its founder, BadJah, well-known for their prolific output, you can be certain that they’ve got plenty more in store for listeners in 2021
